Moral Development

Robin Hanson corners a very important question.

The difference in proposed future direction between #1 and #2 is large.

The answer being something like 6 or 10 - factors one and two, plus factors three or four not mentioned.

Society's aggregate is becoming better at being moral not just to Aristotelean standards, but also to Christian, Lockean and Kantian standards. And, lately, to Progressive standards. The East even flirted with being more moral to Marxist standards.

Were the only possibility be factor 2 alone else factor 1, this instruction-induced moral drift would neatly contradict factor 2.

However, amoral violence, such as accepted executions or moral-orthogonal muggings, are also decreasing.

This clearly contradicts factor 1. I don't know too many criminals who often visit Church, read Kant, or go to University.

Ergo, clearly both.

Most likely there are more things in heaven and earth, (Hanson,) Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
