- this is the primary real (vs. theoretical) activity (purpose?) of government -- transferring wealth and power to the politically connected.
- This is bad for the citizenry on every level you can come up with.
See also, David Brin's Transparent Society. If you're not a seasteader or charter-cities advocate, Brin's radical reverse panopticon (which is incidentally profoundly incompatible with conservativism) seems the only choice for restraining the corporatist state's power. Also seems very likely to happen, regardless anyone's preferences.

A transparent society also makes life easier for seasteaders and charter cities.
So no real downside I can see.
