The Playing Fields of Eton

Walter Russell Mead reminds us of the old aphorism, in talking about the English exporting their boarding school model to Asia.

I think the next war will have been won by Master Chief and Kerrigan.

More directly, I oppose thoroughly the notion that better schools is the way to educate the elite.  And I expect we'll see me vindicated in the next 12-15 years.

If a new, freer method of education does prove to be more effective, this will provide an advantage to those societies that prefer freedom. More rigid and authoritarian societies will be reluctant-to-unable to adopt such a model.

Note: Society is not the same as nation. I can certainly see large Western nations splitting along such a fault line.
